Day 2 - Tana Toraja Highlands

We spent our second day with a local Indonesian orchid guide who knew the surrounding Rantepao mountain areas well and explored some old logging trails at approximately 1200-1475m altitude. There we found several different habitats and managed to locate a form of Nepenthes maxima with thin papery pitchers and a huge plant of Nepenthes glabrata with pale red flecking on its pitchers. Also at this site we found a large number of terrestrial and epiphytic orchids in flower such as Dendrobium melinanthum, Dendrobium vogelsangii, Bulbophyllum odoratum, Spiranthes sinensis, Thrixspermum amplexicaule, Spathoglottis plicata, Peristylus monticola and Peristylus maingayi. Also found were 5-6 plants of both Paphiopedilum bullenianum var. celebensis and Paphiopedilum sangii, but unfortunately neither were in flower.
